Hi everyone, and thanks for stopping by. I can't believe Alex's tour is wrapping up. I'm glad he was able to squeeze me in as a host. Today we're going behind the scenes to view an interview between an investigative reporter from the Galactic Star and Byron. Enjoy.
Reporter: Due to negative events in your past that were influenced by your stubborn and rebellious attitude, few options remain for you. Why do you think you deserve the opportunity to compete for a position of Cosbolt fighter pilot?
Byron: Why? Because I’m damned good! I completed simulator training at the top of my class and I intend to be the best Cosbolt pilot ever. Besides, I’m tired of everyone telling me what I can and can’t do. This is my one chance to accomplish something great and shove it back in their faces.
Reporter: War is brewing on the edge of space. Billions of lives here on earth are at stake. Why do you think you have the skills necessary to participate in a military offensive that could decide the fate of Cassa?
Byron: Because I can fly circles around the other trainees, and once I complete training, I’ll fly circles around other Cosbolt pilots, too. Hardly anyone has the guts to perform the maneuvers I attempt. Almost no one possesses my unique ability, either. I’m not allowed to disclose it, either, so don't ask!
Reporter: But you’re unproven. Being successful in simulated fights in a controlled environment is nothing compared to live action. There’s a saying, “The best plans go to hell as soon as the first shot is fired.” Why are you so confident you can perform in the heat of battle?
Byron: Because I’m not afraid. I can disconnect and ignore distractions. I know when that moment occurs, I’ll focus on the task and get it done. I’ve nothing to lose anyway.
Reporter: Do you see your youth and inexperience as an obstacle? Could these prove to put the lives of others in danger?
Byron: I know I lack experience, but I don’t intend to lose my head. I just want a fair shot at proving myself. I hate being judged prematurely!
A door opens and slams shut. Hard. Bassa Enters Room
Bassa: I don’t approve of you interfering with my pilots in training. If you have anything to ask, you can ask me. Got it? Wrap this up now!
Reporter: Out of all the fighter pilots you can take under your wing, why Byron? Most would view him as a maverick.
Bassa: The boy’s full of attitude, but he’s brimming with talent as well. If he doesn’t receive the proper training, he’ll be killed in the fleet. I refuse to allow that to happen.
Reporter: He’s raw and reckless, Bassa. You know it. I know it.
Bassa: That’s why he needs guidance! He needs discipline to reign in that radical behavior. If I can’t reach him, I doubt any person will ever reach Byron.
Reporter: You’ve not necessarily had the best history yourself, Bassa. You’ve had your fair share of failures. Perhaps a have a few skeletons in your closet, too?
Bassa: None that I’ll share with you! I’m the most decorated navigator in the fleet and that’s all you need to know. Now get out of here. Now.
Reporter: Okay, okay. Let’s not get physical. I’m leaving.

To pilot the fleet’s finest ship…
Few options remain for Byron. A talented but stubborn young man with a troubled past and rebellious attitude, his cockpit skills are his only hope. Slated to train as a Cosbolt fighter pilot, Byron is determined to prove his worth and begin a new life as he sets off for the moon base of Guaard.
Much to Byron’s chagrin, the toughest instructor in the fleet takes notice of the young pilot. Haunted by a past tragedy, Bassa eventually sees through Byron's tough exterior and insolence. When a secret talent is revealed during training, Bassa feels compelled to help Byron achieve his full potential.
As war brews on the edge of space, time is running short. Byron requires a navigator of exceptional quality to survive, and Bassa must make a decision that could well decide the fate of both men. Will their skills be enough as they embark on a mission that may stretch their abilities to the limit?
“…calls to mind the youthful focus of Robert Heinlein’s early military sf, as well as the excitement of space opera epitomized by the many Star Wars novels. Fast-paced military action and a youthful protagonist make this a good choice for both young adult and adult fans of space wars.” - Library Journal

Thanks again, Stephen!
Kitty, we need to talk!
Wonderful interview. Great fun idea. :)
This was a unique way to introduce a book. Loved it!
Good job, Guys.
Bassa and Byron seem very focused and intense, but I guess you have to be in their situation.
Fun interviews!
I love the way this was presented! I loved reading it. :D
I like the peek into the character's attitudes and fighter pilot mentalities. Cool interview.
This was a fun interview. :) Thanks for the chuckles!
A fun and interesting interview. Nice to get a glimpse of a different side to the story.

Thoughts in Progress
Thanks, everyone! This was fun.
That's a whole lotta machoism there!
Oh man. I was already super thirsty for this book. You've now made it worse, thanks Stephen!
Just kidding, I'm actually glad you reminded me. I'm going to go order it now.
This was a fun and different way to do an interview. A jerk reporter and testosterone fueled fighter pilot. It was a lot of fun to do. Glad everyone enjoyed it.
what an awesome idea for a book review!!! And you get to know the character so well, you want to know what happens to him!
Excellent work, Stephen!!! :o) good luck to Alex~
Matthew, do it now! (Did I say that out loud?)
LTm, that's good then!
I love the interview from the two main character's POV. I'm really getting into the book now and can't wait to do a review of my own.

Really original and fun idea. Well written!
Clarissa, I just hope it's a good one or I'll have to hide in shame.
Well I loved that interview even more now that I read some of CassaStar last night.
Great characters. Great tension. Byron can fly my spacecraft anytime.... lol.
I had a feeling some of our lady friends on Blogdom would find Byron and Bassa more .... um, likeable after this interview.
Pk, sure you can handle the attitude?
Love this idea! Makes for a great interview!
Happy weekend,
Karen
Great interview! And for anyone wondering - the book is fantastic! The characters are great!! :)
You've got quite a few arrogant characters here, Alex. Good one!
My Darcy Mutates…
This little exchange effectively captures the spirit of the characters of Byron and Bassa. I started reading CassaStar and they're still going through training. Come on guys--I'm getting as impatient as Byron to get into the battle scenes.
Stephen's blog tour starts soon!

Tossing It Out
Enid, Thanks for stopping by and Congrats! on your manuscript. 70,000 words is awesome! I think of Top Gun and how cocky and arrogant these guys were. Why not do an interview like this? Add a jerk reporter and watch the sparks fly.
What a fun post! Thanks for introducing us.
Thanks again, Stephen.
Jemi, thrilled you enjoyed it!
Lee, don't worry - there's plenty of battles ahead.
Hi Steve and Alex .. what a great idea bringing in a reporter from Byron's world .. very entertaining .. thanks - Sci-Fi .. might be changing for me!
Have great weekends .. Hilary
Hilary, glad we could convert you. I read new genres from time to time. I'm reading a fantasy book now called Sword of Shanarra, a Fantasy book. I haven't ready Fantsay since high school. Its a nice change of pace and a really good book.
Thanks, Hilary!
And told you it's a great book, Stephen!
Thanks Alex and Stephen for posting this little interview. I like interviews and conducted one myself. When I am promoting my book I might do that again...who knows. One of these days I will buy both of your books. I need a kindle, it's on my birthday/holiday gift lists.
Nancy
N. R. Williams, fantasy author
Hi Stephen -
I'm curious. Is the book available in print? Are some authors making their work exclusively for ereaders?
Susan :)
Nancy, hope Santa is good to you!
Susan, it's available in trade paperback and all eBook formats - I think Stephen posted some links above.
What a fun interview. Book sounds really interesting.
What an awesome guest post, Alex and Stephen. I've just finished CassaStar and this interview really added to my enjoyment. Thank you!
Thanks, Susanne!
And Ellie, so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for sending that email, too.
